University Park Unveils New Public Transit System: A Guy Named Trey in a Golf Cart
After months of threatening to leave DART, the Park Cities unveiled their own transit system: an SMU junior named Trey in a golf cart.
University Park, TX – After months of threatening to leave DART, the Park Cities have unveiled their own vision of public transportation: a golf cart driven by a 22-year-old SMU junior named Trey.
“It’s everything residents said they wanted,” said a spokesperson for the new University Park Area Rapid Transit, or UPART. “Clean, safe, exclusive, and it doesn’t go anywhere near anyone we don’t know.”
The system has one route, from Snider Plaza to the country club and back, on a schedule officials describe as “whenever Trey’s up.” Fares are free for residents and “not an option” for everyone else.
Early reviews are glowing. “Trey is wonderful,” said rider Bitsy Carrington. “He holds my handbag and tells me about his fantasy football team. The bus never did that.”
Service was suspended Tuesday, when Trey had class, and again Wednesday, when Trey “didn’t feel like it.” A second cart is proposed for 2028, pending Trey’s roommate’s availability.
Meanwhile, DART says its buses will keep running through the area for the housekeepers and landscapers, who have been riding them the whole time.
