Rangers Tied for First Place With a Losing Record; Fans “Cautiously Mediocre”
Heading into the final weekend at 79–80, the Rangers are somehow tied for first. Fans describe the mood as 'thrilling,' 'confusing' and 'very Arlington.'
Arlington, TX – Heading into the final weekend of the season, the Texas Rangers sat tied for first in the American League West at 79–80, a situation fans describe as “thrilling,” “confusing” and “very Arlington.”
No team has ever won its division with a losing record, a fact fans have embraced. “We’ve always said we could do something nobody’s ever done,” said Dale Hutchins of Euless. “I just didn’t think it’d be this.”
Bars across the Metroplex are pouring a “.494 Special,” a beer served slightly less than half full.
“It’s the most relatable team we’ve ever had,” Hutchins said. “Hovering around .500 all year, never more than three games over. That’s not a baseball team. That’s my 401(k).”
At press time, fans were bracing for a finish that could send the team to the postseason, or send everyone back to worrying about the Cowboys, which is where everyone ends up anyway.
